  • Joachim Low has backed Bastian Schweinsteiger to get back to his best for Manchester United after the Germany midfielder was criticised by Louis van Gaal. Schweinsteiger is still "a world-class player", according to Low, and needs time to adjust to the Premier League.
  • West Ham co-chairman David Gold says the club will not sign a new striker in January despite the club's injury crisis.

  • Louis van Gaal must win the Premier League title by 2017 to keep his job with the club's hierarchy focused on maximising the league's new £5bn TV deal.
  • Manchester United fear the Premier League is so competitive it's harming their ability to sign world class players. Senior United figures believe it's harder to look good in England than it is elsewhere in Europe, which is hurting them in the transfer market as they compete for the likes of Gareth Bale, Thomas Muller and others.

  • Youngsters Connor Randall and Ryan Fulton have agreed new contracts at Liverpool, with Randall describing it as a "dream come true".

  • Former Newcastle midfielder Rob Lee wants the club to sign Charlie Austin, Andros Townsend and Matt Phillips by the end of the January transfer window.
  • Sunderland are set to recall goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from his loan at Preston North End. Sam Allardyce reportedly wants a closer look at Pickford, and could install him as the club's number two if a suitor is found for Vito Mannone.
